Why We Should Celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week

ICYMI - Global Entrepreneurship Week: "Because we can't afford to leave out anyone."

Just as many of you may have, I missed this last year. The good news: This is only the second annual Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). Word arrived to me just barely in time for the 2009 event: GEW 2009 is November 16 - 22, 2009. So, fellow entrepreneurs in Indianapolis and Indiana, let's plan now, so that next year we can do better.

There are a multitude of ideas that can fit entrepreneurial development needs in our communities. Among them are Startup Weekends. A "Startup Weekend" will take place in 2009 in a handful of (currently less than 20) cities in the U.S. and around the globe. There are thousands of potential locations for Startup Weekends in 2010 and beyond.

The U.S. government also recognizes how important entrepreneurship is -- both to the global economy and our culture. (They have yet to determine sustainably workable ways to nurture entrepreneurship, but that's best addressed under a separate entry). In the video below, Secretary of State Hillary R. Clinton voices support for GEW and points out that we cannot "afford to leave out anyone." Therefore, it falls to us -- those at the grassroots, in the trenches, to uncover the needs and meet them.

Your CALL TO ACTION is this:
For GEW 2009, it's a bit late to plan a full bore event. So, let's look toward 2010.

In the spirit of "a well planned event becomes a well executed event", I challenge not only my F2F friends and colleagues in the Hoosier State, but the rest of you to join me in planning a high impact event in each of our communities for next year.
