Success in Your Space

Success in Your Space and Finding Your Market Niche

I was sitting near a second story window in a commercial building today and saw what I thought was a crack in the glass. After looking more closely, I discovered that it was the anchor edge of a spider web. So, what does that have to do with business, you ask?

It quickly became clear to me that this industrious little spider had found his niche. He will survive and thrive, (at least until the window washers come).

Let's look at the facts.

  1. The web is outside the window on the second floor. A perfect location where competitors were NOT.
  2. The web is positioned just close enough to the glass. Right where small flying insects are likely to land.
  3. The web is not covering the whole window. It spans just enough to ensure success.
  4. The web is nearly invisible, yet perfectly well constructed. It's effective; I spotted no less than ten silk-wrapped meals-ready-to-eat, in a single glance.
  5. The spider adapted to his current conditions. Sure, he had to climb the side of the building first, but it was definitely worth his time and effort.
